CLEAN BOWLED.
A P.L.L. ELECTION CANDIDATE'S
MISREPRESENTATIONS.
Here is a sample of the misrepresentations which' characterised the tactics of the Labour caucus (P.L.L.) candidates during the recent election: — In reply to the cable message received by Sir John Quick from Sir Wiliam Robertson, Chief of the Imperial Staff, wherein he stated that every man was necessary to win the war, Mr. A. J. Hampson, the P.L.L. Opposition candidate for Bendigo, made a sworn declaration that, at a banquet given by the High Commissioner, Mr. Andrew Fisher, to the delegates from the i overseas dominions, in the Hotel Cecil last year, he heard Sir William Robertson publicly declare 'that "we had enough men to win the war ; what we need is every man to win peace." The "Sydney Morning Herald" clean bowled Mr. Hampson by quoting, from the report of the function presided over by Mr. Andrew Fisher at the Hotel Cecil on August 29, 1916, as given in the London "Times"; — "General Sir William Robertson, in proposing the. 'Commonwealth of Australia,' said the part which the Australiancontingent had played in the war was second to none of the overseas dominions. The Australians had done unprecedented work on the West Front and in Egypt. In a letter the Com-mander-in-Chief said the great achievements at Pozieres had never been surpassed. The Australians had never relinquished the ground they had won. They had established a very fine record, which he was sure they would sustain. We wanted all the men we 'could get, not only to win th e war, ,which, with God's help we should, but to win a lasting peace, such as was demanded by the great sacrifices we had made."
