Apart from soldiers, the total number of persons who arrived in the Dominion during: igi6 was 21,799, and the departures during- the year numbered '.21,163,. the excess of arrivals over departures for the year beino; 636. According- to returns furnished by the im migration officers, 3394 persons arrived from the United Kingdom and 2608 departed therefor during- the year. From the Commpnwealth of Australia the arrivals are returned as numbering- -15.321. persons, and the departures thereto as 16,300 persons. Arrivals arid departures from and to other countries were 3084 and 2152 persons respectively.
