VERDICT FOR DEFENDANT. WILL RESIGN HIS SEAT. LONDON, February 2. Mr. Pcmberton Billing, M.P., was subjected to a searching cross-examina-tion on suing the newspaper "Globe" for damages for issuing, a placard inferring that he was employed as a spy to secure information regarding our air services. Questioned regarding the alleged photograph of a letter sent privately to Mt. Balfour, which figured prominently in the House of Commons debate, Mr. Billing stated that Mr. Balfour was at the Admiralty, and they gave him photographs of a letter. Mr. Justice Darling, in summing up, asked if Mr. Billing could fairly complain of the imputation after his admissions regarding the friend at tne Admiralty. ; A verdict was returned for defendand with costs. (Rec. February 4, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 3. Mr. Billing has announced that he is resigning and seeking re-election in consequeee of the lawsuit.
