A PATRIOTIC OFFER.
After serving- the Mass of a Canon, a soldier, who had offered himself for the duty, gave the priest some account of his position, in answer to his inqui ries : — 'I am the father of eight chi)dren — four boys and four girls. The boys are at the war and I am here in Mende ready to go and join them. I know ' lam exempt, but one of my boys i has been killed by the enemy, and I j told myself that my place was by the ' sid of his brothrs, to avenge him. So ; 1 enlisted. . . My daughters are re- j I signed and pray for France, and when ' Itold my wife of my intention, her reply was".: 'I believe it is your duty ; ' I should never have had the courage to t tell you so, but since God has mi -i spired you with the thought, go— it A . is for God and for France." ]
