'ATTRACTIVE DOUBLE PRO- [ GRAMME.

At the Opera House to-night Mr Pollard will tender his twenty first' patriotic bentfit, when, as usual, the gross receipts 'will lift handed over to the funds. The bill of fare' to be offered to-night is unusually attractive and should draw a crowded house. The first part will consist of the new programme of Pollard's Pictures, which received such a hearty greeting last night. The star drama, "The Silent Plea," caused quite a sensation, the appealing story of the young, widow, and the truisms depicted making a strong appeal to the large audi ence present last evening. The clever Chaplin "When Charlie was a. Child," and a new "Australian Gazette" will also be repeated. At 9.15 p.m. Mr J.. R. Merrett, of Christchurch, who comes over entirely at his own ex pense for this occasion, will deliver his original and well constructed lecture on "Lord Kitchener: His Life and Work." In Mr Merrett 'e* lecture to-night a number of points, incidents and events in the life of Britain's one strong man, that are not familiar to the general public, will be touched upon. The lecture will be illustrated by over 1 sixty views showing scenes of the great work he has done, and is still doing. Humour is the last thing expected in association with Kitchener, but Mr Merrett manages to intro duce • several . amusirig stories of the Lord of Khartoum's caustic comments.
