POSITION AT SALONIKA. EXCELLENT.
NEW YORK, December 2 8. # General Castlenau/ interviewed by an American correspondent at Athens, said that the situation at . Salonika was excellent. , He had rarely seen an emplacement lend itself to better defence. It would also prove the most favourable conditions for an offensive. Asked whether the Allied forces contemplated an offensive from Salonika in the spring, he replied : In the spring I will tell. It is impossible to discount the exigencies of the military situation so far ahead. Should I decide upon an offensive from Saloni ika it will be under peculiarly favourable conditions. ; Asked how soon the war._would be finished, he replied : That does not matter. The material thing is victory, ana that" is certain • sooner, or later. In France every Frenchman and French woman is ready to go the "whole way for a complete triumph There will be no weakening.. France is not only determined, but France is sure. ' s• . . ■ •
