AN ACTOR V.C. LIENT DARTNELL'S BRAVERY.
LONDON, December 27. Lieut. Dartnell, of the League of Frontiersmen, . has been; awarded the Victoria Cross for most conspicuous bravery on September 3rd at Maktua, in East Africa. During a mounted and infantry engagement with the enemy, black yoops were, murdering our wounded. Lieut Dartnell, though himself wounded, insisted on being left behind in the hope of saving the rest, lie lost bis liwe in a most gallant attempt to save his .. comrades. Lieut. Dartnell is believed to be the first actor to receive the Victoria Cross. . A soldier's" letter states: "Lieut. Dartnell gave a good aocount of himself. We found seven dead at his feet. '
