GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB

THE CONCLUDING DAY. WAIPUNUI AND THE NUT DEAD MEAT IN BIG RACE. The above Club was yesterday favoured with slightly better weather than that experienced the first day ; but the course was very heavy and the grounds sodden underfoot. The racing- in some instances was of high order and the finish in the October Handicap was' worth going out to see. The financial aspect of the meeting does not look very rosy.: The in'vestrritents on the machine for the afternoon were ,£3945 against ,£4574 last year, and for the two days £7590 against ,£0427, showing a. decrease of .£1837. The club have been most unfortunate since it commenced racing in the Spring, and seeing that the Meeting is so close to Carnival Week in Christchurch it behoves the committee to put on their considering cap once more and select more suitable dates. The afternoon's outing was most enjoyable and the Stipendiary Steward Mr J. Davio. of Christchurch, had an easy time of it but there is one young man who has to answer a few questions, J. Pine, who rode Svcaborg in the Farewell Handicap. Mr W. Flvnirs. despatches in some instances where all that could be desired ; but he was not troubled with large fields. 1 Tlie attendance was slightly better than the first dav. and the improvements were again favourably commented upon, and the room around the. new totalisator house will be oreatlv appreciated at the Summer Mepting. The Citizens' Band was in attendance on both days, and the Band's pjju-ing was much appreciated. The following are the results: — FLYTNG HANDICAP, of 50 says ; j five furlongs: — ' ■ I (2) — T. Adamson's Clanmcna (McRandall) 9.4 • 1 (Beale) 2 (5)— A. Beban's Irish Gift 8.5 (Holmes) : 3 (3) St. Hilary and (4) King Star also ran. The horse jumped away to a good start, but Parlovna soon established a big lead, and led well up the straight but tired to nothing, and Clanmena caught her and won by a length. Irish Gift two lengths behind third. Time — i.ri 1-5. Tote .£314. NGAHERE HACK HANDICAP, of so soys ; six furlongs — (»)-- 1). Brown's Caraid Dileas, o.S (Beale) i (2) — J. D. Wingham'.s Glenongly 8 11 (Me Randall) 2 (4) — J. B. Stewart's Rhino 7.0 (Walsley) 3 (3) Royal Jack also ran. A good start Avas effected. Caraid Dileas on the rails went to the front, and was never headed, winning by tAVo lengths. Time — 1.26 3-5. Tote £480. OCTOBER HANDICAP, of 80 soys; one mile — (0) — J. SteAvart's Waipunui 8.4 Waslcy) t (3)— Miss M. O'Brien's The Nut 8.2 (LudloAv) t (O— J. C. N. Grigg's Hard Shot 8.2 (Clark) ....' 3 (5) Divorce, (2) Waikehua, and (4) Glencannich also started. Mr Flynn got the horses aAvay to a splendid start . Hard Shot previously going through the tapes three times. Passing the stand Divorce iind Hard Shot were out in front. At the back of the course Waipunui commenced to go up and The Nut also made a forward move. Coming into the. straight Waipunui, The Nut, Hard Shot and Divorce were in lint. Here Wasley brought the Conqueror gelding along, and The Nut also came away a ding dong race ensued right to the Judge's box and the Judge \vas unable to. separate the trio and hoisted a dead heat amidst great excitement. It Avas a splendid race throughout, and Hard Shot Avas only a length behind. Time — 1.58 4-5. Tote £875. STEWARD'S HANDICAP, of 55 soys : five furlongs — (1) — J. Fairbairn's Bon&tion 5.5 1 (2)— P. McKenna's Golden Morn 8.12 2 (3)— A. Barritt's King Star 8.10 3 (4) Irish Gift also ran. A good start saAV Bonation find his legs quickest and shot aAvay. Coming into the straight the gelding had a lead of six furlongs, and maintained it to the finish. Time — 1.10 3-5. Tote £581. COUNTY HANDICAP, of so soys; six furlongs — (1) — Mr J. BroAvn's Caraid Dileas cj.6 (Beale) ... ". 1 (2) — R. Adamson's Miss Masterful 7.3 (LudloAv) 2 The only starters. Miss Masterful jumped aAvay at the start but Caraid Dileas, overhauled her "when the straight \vas reached, and won with plenty to spare. Time — 1.29. Tote £88. AH AURA WELTER, of 65 soys; seven furlongs — (I)— J. C. N. Grigg's Hard Shot 9.3 (Lloyd) i (3) — J. D. Wingham's Glenongley 8.4 (Mcßandall) 2 (2) — P. Donnellan's Invader 8.0 (Lee) 3

(4) The Nut, (5) Glencannich and (0) Canterbury hlso started. A splendid start. Going past the stand Hard Shot was in front with livvudor and Glenongley next. This order was maintained throughout. The Nut made v forward move when the straight was reached. A splendid finish resulted in Hard Shot gaining the verdict by half a length, the same j distance between the next three horses Time — 1.42 2-5. Tote £781. FAREWELL HANDICAP,, of Go soys ; five and a-half furlongs — (2)— J. Adamson's Clanmcna, 9.2 (Mcßandall) 1 (I.)— J. Biggin's Svcaborg 9.2 (Pine) 2 (4) — J. Stewart's Rhino 7.12 (Walsley) ' 3 (3) Royal Jack also started. Sveaborg led at the start, but Clanmena came with a rattle in the straight, and won by three lengths. Time — r -'5 3-5- Tote—^B26.
