IN DEFENCE OF THE TURK
In the course of a letter to his father (Mr. Justice Stringer), Trooper Trey oW. Stringer, of the^Auckland Mount- „ ed Rifles says: — "I would like you to contradict the 'fool statements' we see in the New Zealand and Australian Press concerning the Turk. Anyone who has been Anzac will vouch for the following, and it is quite safe to say that we who have been fighting him admire and even like the Turk: — (1) He is brave and a sticker; (2) he has never shelled the hospital ship, the Red Cross station or the flags; (3) he gave s v twelve hours' notice to move a Red s Cross station on the beach before shell- C ing; (4) lie has dressed our wounded s and in one case carried them to an out- £ post of ours; (5) a postcard received v in Cairo from two Australian prisoners t in Constantinople states they are be- f ing treated well; (6) 'terrible' is a k misnomer for the Turk." •„ . . Trooper Stringer is among the wounded men now en route to New Zealand.
