THE NATIONAL CABINET

■♦ PRIME MlNlci'ilß'S VIEWS

"I think those who have watched the business of the ses-sion must come to the concluiou that the National Cabinet has worked very well indeed" said Mr. Massey recently. "1 luiow from communications whieli liav c reach ed me from all over New Zealand it lia.i given satisfaction to the groat majority of the people. "When the "National Government wa s establiscd a number of people looked upon it as an experiment which might -or might not turn out satisfactorily, but even those people who were inclined to be doubtful at first are satisfied now. Personally, I say that I am more than pleased with results. There has been, a certain amount 01 adverse criticism from a few members who do not exactly approve of wnat has been done, but speaking for myself as head of the Government, I' want to say that the new members of tlie Ministry have done everytalng that was possible for them to do, not only in connexion with the business of the session but also in connexion with the administration of public affairs generally. There has not been the slightest friction since the change was made, and so far as I am able to judge the present satisfactory condition of affairs will continue as long as the present arrangement lasts. It would, in my opinion, not be possible for any party, cv- . en- with.- a working majority, to have done justice to the circumstances and conditions that have ariseu since the war broke out, but with a Xsational Government, party influence has ceased to operate. All sections of the House have been able to join in working for the Empire in the most serious crisis that we have ever been called upon to face."
