ON ACTIVE SERVICE
ANOTHER DETACHMENT LEAVES.
Owing to the Mapourika being unable to work the bar yesterday the arrangements made for the farewell to the second draft of the Ninth Reinforcements had to be abandoned, and a fresh programme drawn up. . Shortly after eight o'clock 'the men, assembled in the Drill Shed, and then, headed by the band, marched to the Town Hall where they attend: ed the Patriotic Concert, ancl the farewell ceremony took place. At an interval in the programme . the Mayor came fonvard, and made a vigorous speech eulogising the patriotic spirit that animated the men who had gone forth to do battle in the Empire's cause ancl said that he was convinced that those now about to leave to undergo their course of training preparatory to going to the fighting line, would keep up the best traditions of the Dominion and the Empire. The Rev. W. Trotter, who is undoubtedly our leading patriotic speaker, then gave a stirring address, which found ready sympathy with the large audience assembled. The men leave this morning by the overland, route.
