CEREBRO-SPINAL MENINGITIS.
ONLY ONE CASE IN CHRIST-
CHURCH,
CHRISTCTIURII, August 5. The report that there is only one case of cerebro-spinal meningitis' in Chris tchurch to-day was confirmed by Dr. Chesson, Public Health Officer, who told a "Press" representative that there was no cause whatever for '< alarm, or for any suggestion that the disease might seriously spread. j This particular 1 case, Dr.. Cliesson added, was probably the result of living in an ovpvorowded house under insanitary conditions. Every precaution had been taken to avoid infection anH the man's family were now isolated in hospital as contacts for observation. The man himself was progressing favourably. In addition to this definite case therp is another of a~ soldier on leave from Trpnthurii. This ihan is now isolated at the hospital asMa^; suspect "carrier 1 ' of the disease thoueh not actually suffering himself. His family are also isolated for observation as contacts. This case, Dr. Chesson states, is quite distinct from the one previously mentioned in which spinal -meningitis has actually manifested itself.
