He Avas invalided homo from Egypt suffering from gastritis. He expects to return to the front in about six Aveeks. Lieutenant W. N. Masefleld, the wellknowu riflle shot from the Marlborough Sounds, has volunteered "for service with the expeditionary force. Mr. T. Blain, headmaster at Stafford, has received an appointment in the Lyttelton District High School, and has resigned his present position. Pvte. Mori arty, avlio Avas recently reported missingat the Dardanelles is by latest advice reported as killed in action. His parents Avho reside at Stillwater have the .sympathy of the 'entire community. Mr and Mrs G. T. Moss, who have been spending a few days Avith their son, Mr G. T. Moss, leave for Wellington by the Christchurch express this morning. Mr ami Mrs It. G. Ward (Christchurch) are visiting Greymouth, being the guests of Mr and Mrs T. E. Coates. «• Mr .1. Tcmpler, of the Greymouth branch of" the Bank of New Sou tit Waies, is among those who have enlisted for the front. Mr E. Lawn, manager for Stewart DaAvson aud Co., Cltristchnrch, is at present paying a visit to Greymouth. Mr Geo. Blair, Avho has been promoted to the rank of sergeant at the Dardanelles, is a son of Mr and Mrs Adam Blair, of Patara. Another son, "Jock," is now at Trentham Camp. Messrs Geo. Lockhead, Scannell, ami "Reg" Smith, three Avell known "bagmen," who took a. very active part in the election of the commercial travellers' candidate for Queen of the Westland Carnival, are among those who havo enlisted for active service. In a list of wounded at the Dardanelles, issued from Wellington but Avliich apparently did not come here appears the names of Avounded in Canterbury Battalion, of Private James D. Mclvenniti (uexb of kin Mrs Louisa Glecsoa, Greymouth, and Pvte. Walter James Smith (Mr. Fred Smith, Sale Street, Hokitika.) Mr. K. V. Thompson, tlic popular manager of the lteefton branch of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, has received Avord of his promotion to the Whangarei branch. Mr. Thompson 7 s sympathetic disposition and spontaneous efforts to assist every Avorthy cause in the district, has earned for him a large number of friends iv this district and surrounding parts. Mr. D. Clnrke, Avell-known in musical circles in Hokitika and Westport, has volunteered for service, and has been accepted. He leaves Timaru shortly to go into camp at Trentham. Among the Nelson College Old Boys serving at the front is Driver Pereivul J. Palmer, of the Army Service Corps,, who joined in London. Mr. 11. P. Lowry, Solicitor, Eeefton, has received cabled advice from Cairo that his brother is recovering. Lieut. E. A. E. Lawry, was Avounded at the Dardanelles, almost all the officers in the same battalion Avere severely wounded or killed. Lieut. Lawry was a Christchurch boy, and about to sit for his final exam Avhen he joined the Main Expeditionary Force he is a son of the Ecv. S. Lawry, Manchester Street, St. Alba us, Christchurch. A wedding of local interest Avas celebrated at St. Peter's Church, Wellington, recently, the contracting parties being Albert. E. Davey, of Wanganui, to Miss Coral Hood, of Greymouth, and Mrs J. Hood, of Wanganui. Archdeacon Harper performed the ceremony, and the bride Avas given aAvay by Dr. F. Bennett, of Blenheim, Miss Clyde Hood being chief bridesmaid, and the duties of best man Avere ably curried out by Mr Tom Coltmau. After the Avcdding breakfast, Mr and Mrs A. E. Davey left by motor for the Wairarapa. Mr. Seddon M. 1., Telegraphed to Mr D. J. Evans, ex-Secretary of his election committee, intimating that he had sent in his name for enlistment in the New Zealand Expediionary Froce for Europe. Mr. Seddon also mentioned that he Avas issuing an address to his constitutors, and presuinablv this will arrive by an early mail. It is understood Mr. Seddon will be called into camp, next month at Trentham, Avhere he will be for some Aveeks undergoing the necessary training. Prior to depart ure Mr Seddon Avill visit the electorate, and it is probable the occasion Avill be availed of to recognise his fine public spirited action in volunteering. — Guardian.
