VESSEL SUNK IN THE MIDDLE. A PRE-ARRANGED PLOT. [PEE PItESS ASSOCIATrOX— COPYRIGHT.] (Reed 3.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, lune 13. In connection with the cable receiv,ed on Thursday that the British steamer Den Ewnie had collided with and sank the Italian steamer Cruiten in the middle of the Suez "Canal significance is added to the incident by the summary published by Ministerial authority of the correspondence leading" to the rupture of relations with Tuffkey. The correspondence disclosed a plot to block the waterway which was discovered by Lieut Morse in the employ of the Alexandria City Police. On his return from Constantinople in Tp 14 Lieut Morse informed the Egyptian Ministry that Owar Fauzi Bey, a Turkish staff officer, discussed with L'im plans for blocking- the Canal Fauzi said that a, wealthy Turk had presented the Government with a steamer carrying- the Italian flag;. The commander was an ex-officer of the Turkish Navy. She was to take a cargo of cement. An Italian port manifesto was made out for Massowefc. The captain was to submit to search by a British warship, without demur. Reaching the Canal he w^s to sink the vessel either by colliding; with a British' sihip^or provoking- a British warship to sink her, or sink her himself. Fauzi stated, that a trustworthy Egyptian officer was leaving- for Egypt to participate, and instruct the Agrents. Lieut Mors afterwards spoke to Doctor Truefer about the scheme. The latter did not seem to approve, b'jt grave 'him the plans of the Canal. Lieut Mors met Fauzi later as he was about to go aboard a steamer, but only g-reeted him as he hoped to return soon.
