POOR RESISTANCE TO FRENCH

PARIS, June 11. Details of the French attack on Hebutern show that when it was apparent that the Germans stationed on a farm in the vicinity were partially isolated a heavy .artillery fire was opened, rendering it impossible for the Germants to reprovision the defenders, who were soon demoralised by hunger and thirst.

.The French infantry immediately advanced with, formidable impetuosity, and captured three lines of trenches in. seventeen minutes.

The enemy scarcely resisted the. ensuing bayonet charge, and threw up their hands shouting: "Water! Water!"

The French rapidly organised the captured position, and found a number of machine guns. The prisoners were a spectacle of absolute discouragement and fatigue. The authorities, following General Joffre's order to give the Germans a terrible lesson in humanity, sent the best ambulances to pick up the wound-
