WEST COAST CONTINGENT'S

SEVENTH LEAVE THIS MORNING

The West Coast quota for the Seventh Reinforcements^ who leave by this morning's express for Christchurch, en route to the TrentL'am Training Camp, were farewelled by the Mayor at the Drill Shed last evening. The weather was not conducive to a large attendance of the public, .but nevertheless a fair number of townspeaple were presnet to join in wishing- the troops God speed.'

Captain Colclough, in addressingthe men, outlined their duties whilst proceeding to the Trentham Camp, and impressed upon them the necessity of otal absinence from liquor on the journey north.

The Ladies' Committee's gift of a shaving outfit ,etc, was their presented to the men by the Mayor (Mr. G. E. Perkins). His Worship in conveying tL'e thanks of the West Coast people to these courageous young men who had enlisted for service, mentioned the fact that although much have been said in other parts of tL'e Dominion in connection with the lack of recruits for the various reinforcements, th c West Coast had on every occasion a greater number of young men coming forward than was asked for by the Authorities. Mr. Perkins gave the men some advice as to their conduct -whilst fundergoinor: training- in the camps, and said that L'e had no doubt but that the men going forward now and in the future would conduct themselves in the same loyal manner as those previously sent. On behalf of those on present he wished tLe troops God speed and a safe return to our shores.

• On three cheers being given for the departing soldiers, th c gathering- dispersed.
