POSITION IN AUSTRALIA.
CONSCRIPTION ADVOCATED.
SYDNEY, June 10. Senator Miller, ox-Minister of Defence, in a statement to the Press, advocated National war service in Australia. He pointed out that many factories, including railway workshops, were capable of turning out munitions. So far no effort had been made to utilise them. Australia had done- something to meet the Empire's need in men and must supplement this by doin<r something to meet the equally imperative call for mmiitions. I MELBOURNE, June 10. In the Senate, Senator Bakhap advocated the introduction of conscription at the earliest opportunity. Senator Lynch, in supporting this idea, said he was sure that there was nothing to fear by its introduction. Senator Poarce, in replying, said that no dominion had done as much as Australia. He did not think the time was ripe for conscription. He added thai Australia bad seriously taken up the question of tho supply-nf ammunition fnr small arms and bip guns.
