CORRESPONDENCE

HOSPITAL X-RAYS. (To the Editor.) Sir, — I understand that the X-rays apparatus at the local public hospital has been out of working order for some considerable time, and as far as I can learn, the apparatus is still unable to be used. „ Now ,sir, I would like to know whether you, or any one else, can inform me why the instrument in question has been out of order, and also why such considerable delay is taking place in setting matters right. This ( is a matter of general importance, and I feel sure that there are very few people in «Greymouth and district, who are aware of { the present state of affairs at the Hospital. What the public should know and what I, sir, would like to know is: Is it the duty of the medical superintendent of the institution, or of the electrical engineer in charge, to see that the apparatus is in working order? Who ever is tp blame should be called upon immediately to see that right is done. If it happens that the engineer is not capable of keeping things under his care in proper order, then why is the ratepayers' money being wasted on an incapable man? This, Mr. Editor, is a very serious matter, and ,like many other things in Greymouth are allowed to be hung up far too long. We all must recoginse that a very valuable and tiseful instrument is installed in the Hospital, but what use can be made of it in its present state? Should a serious illness or an accident befall anyone, and it is found that the patient has to be brought to the Hospital for treatment, nothing can be done, ,and the patient has to lie in suffering for weeks, and perhaps months simply on iu-ount of the carelessness of some one. I must apologise for trespassing on your space, but as I find that so important a matter as I have referred to should be brought under public notice, I have perforce to pen these lines. I trust that the responsible authorities will, without delay, see that thei X-rays apparatus in the hospital is put in proper working order. Thanking you in anticipation — I am, etc., SUFFERER.
