Mr. H. L. Michel was a visitor to Eeefton yesterday.
Mr. T. H. Davey, member for Christchurch East, has decided ■ to withdraw from the election contest.
Messrs James Colvin and P. C. Webb the member for Buller and Grey respectively, were visitors to the Reefton trots yesterday.
At the statutory meeting of the Westland County Council yesterday, Mr. A. Clifton was elected chairman for the ensuing term.
Sergt.-Major Watts, instructor of the local defence forces has received notice to report himself at Wellington at once for active service at the front, and he leaves on Friday evening to take up his duties. It is understood he will form one of the auxiliary expeditionary force now formed at Wellington which is expected to leave the Dominion early in December. Sergt.-Major Watts during his stay on the Coast has proved an excellent officer, and has won hosts of friends, who will wish him every success at the front.
