Dr. Ada Patterson, medical inspector of schools, is m&king an inspection of the school in the Buller district. j Mr. Pember Beeves, a well-known New Zealander, formerly Agent-General for the Dominion, was arrested as a spy at Arras. He was taken before the German commandant, who interrogated him and then ordered his release. Mr. C» A. L. Tread well, associate to his Honour Mr. Justice Sim, was admitted by his Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) as a solicitor of the Supreme Court on Thursday. Mr. C. H. Treadwell appeared as counsel. Colonel Chaffey, officer commanding the Canterbury district, Colonel Cooper and Captain Coleclough, of the Coast Defence, Lyttelton, are on a visit to Westport for the purpose of inspecting ' the cadets, territorials, rifle club, league of frontiersmen and other members of the defence force.
