HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT,

WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. The High Commisisoner 's cable dated October 3rd is as follows: —

Note. — Quotations unless otherwise specified are the average market prices on spot.

Mutton. — The market is steady and there is not much demand, but prices are firm on account of the limited supply at present in store. Canterbury s!]d, North Island s|d.

Lamb. — There is little demand. Tke market is dull with the downward tendency. Canterbury twos 62-d, heavy weight 6£d, other than Canterbury (s§d for light weight.

'Beef. — Tke market is not quite so firm. Tke cause of tke decline is the large supply of Irisk, together with lower prices paid by tke Government in anticipation of keavy arrivals from tke Argentine. New Zealand kinds 6§d, fores s§d. Tkere are no arrivals of ckilled beer at tke market tkis week.

Butter. — Tke market is firmer. Tkere is an. increasing demand for better grades. Danisk steady 138/- to 140/-, Australian (moderate demand) 120/- to 124/-, Siberian (fair demand) 118/- to 122/-, Irisk creamery (fair demand) 124/- to 126/-, exceptional 128/-, Argentine 118/- to 122/-.

Ckeese. — Tke market is quiet but steady. Canadian wkite coloured 74/---to 76/-, Englisk 76/- to 84/-. Tke stocks Canadian ckeese at London, Liverpool, and Bristol on Ist October were 169,000 boxes, against 298,000 for tke same time last year. Tke stocks of New Zealand ckeese on Ist October were 2,250 crates, against 300 last year.

Hemp. — The market is very quiet and notking doing. Quotations are nominal New Zealand, good fair £23 10s od, fair £21 10s Od, fair current Manila £26 10s. New Zealand is very seriously affected by the Mexican Sisal declining rapidly. American quotation 37 cents, equal to £17 10s 0d c.i.f. at New York. Tke output from Manila for tke week was 13,000 bales.

Wkeat. — Tke market is quiet, witk a tendency in favour of buyers. Australian 45/- c.i.f.

Oats. — Tke market is dully but very little business is doing. New Zealand cartons 29/- ex store.

Beans. — Tke market is steady but tke demand is only moderate. New Zealand beans f.a.q. (new crop) per 5/4 lbs 34/-.

Wool. — Tke market is firm. Prices continue to advance for all grades of medium coarse crossbreds.
