THE EAKA.
As large number of the newspapers of the dominion have worongly interpreted the notice published in the Gazette regarding the kaka or bush par rot. The effect, of the notice is to absolutely protect the kaka. The penalty for killing ■ a kaka now at any time of the year is a fine not exceeding £5.
CONDEMNED CATTLE
) The total number 'of stock condemned and slaughtered last year was 3,348 cattle and ten pigs. The compnesation j.aid on half value was £8,632, arid on full value £73. The public, account was reimbursde to the an^dunt pi . £1,---(593 as tbe result of the disposal of carcases.
POST AND TELEGRAPH
The annual report of the Pbst and Telegraph Department shews the exxsess of. receipts over expenditure during the year was £96,606. Considerable public attention has been given to the radio telegraphic seryiee.
