Anderson, lamp trimjner, Wills, boats wain, and Roberts, third' officer, ;gave evidence regarding the gear. - Anderson said- to be a competent seamen fixed it using a new . strop made of 3^-inch manila rope, .which should bear four tons, and four plies were used.
