Metro-' politan T.C.- Winter. R.\t:i.TG NOTFS. * When it atriv^^ i^ CaT- , bints' skeleton j^_.y be set up i-n the museum, alongside that of Trenton, anothcj of Musket's 30ns, M. Edwards was seen out in several of the events a( th/; last meeting' of | the New South Wales Trotting Club, ' but the best he could do'was to drive Wallace WOOH *--- second place in the Epping Handicap. After being badly defeated in the June Handicaps the Wag-ga (N..S.W) meeting, the Soult gelding, Wild West came out on the ~,econd day ,and effected a sii rprisp by easily accounting for the L : cen«ed Victuallers ' Cup. 1* 'transpires that* "all ,the horses knocked down to R. Gooseman at the T e Mahanga thoroughbred sale were secured on behalf of Mr. W."J. Douglas, one of the owners of the- estate. In being placed within, a pojand of Gigandra. one of tl?e greatest sprinters of modern times, .Ventura has been paid a great complimient by the weight adjusted for the A.J.C. Epsom Handicap. For a horse of such moderate pretensions, Valhalla seems to have caught it hot in botli the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps. s The Kilcheran mare, Kilmeadon, was seen to advantage in. the chief event at the recent Warwick Farm (N.S.W.) meeting. She started third favourite, and jusb managed tct-.de-Feat Firm by a head. N At a recent cieetmg of the West Australian Trotting /association a lady jockey, "Mrs Kellv. rode. a couple' of winners Snowfoot l( nd Nell Gwynne. Neelless to say, her victories were made the occasior, of a splendid reception. It i s many years since ladks. were allowed to lide in trotting events in" New Zealand, but at one time' the local horsewoman, Miss Button showed her' ability by driving 'The Fiddler to victory at a Plumpton Park meeting. Ventura appears to have more than her fair share of weight at gst 61b in the A.J.C. EpspcL. Handicap.' The" big mile event is one^ of the hardest races .n Australia to win, for there is always a large field, and many horses v\rp specially reserved for it, sorretim.es 'waiting as long a? twelve months so as to get in at a favourable handicap. One ha<s to go back to Marvel'^ success unc T -er lost 2lb m^,;3o.i> §> Ifed"the task «pt;- Ventura equalled or excelled.
