FOOTBALL
TO-DAY'S FIXTURES
STAR V. KOHJNOOR. ,
This afternoon's attraction at the Park will be the above fixture, which commences at o'clock- The form of these two teams, to d.ye shows that there is very little between their abilities on the field. Both are inclined to the open passing game, and jf a dry field obtains to-day, and at time of writing there is every -^prospect of it, the railbirds will be treated to, one of the best back games that has yet taken place in r lub football on the Park ground. Included in the constitution of the two »ide s ,again, are hrst rate pack. 1 } or forwards, wmch have already given many fine exhibitions, and may be relied on to produce their best in~toudays contest. With these facts in mind there appears nothing in the way of this match being a thriller, and which ever side prevails it is certain that there will be no runaway victory. Kohinoor are in the proud position of beino^ at .the head of the competition^ and will be tbe popular favourites v to«day, but the Star is by no means a beaten side yet, and a. *'ctory to the amber and blacks would not prove a surprise. The game is therefore open, and full of possibilities. It is stated that this match will 1 probably close Paton's career on the local field, and if so is a fact very much to be regretted. His fine generalship ha s been a .big factor in the sxiccess of the Xohinoor forwards, whilst his kicking generally, and hi« place kicking* in 'particular, have £een magnificent. Thf ligb'lity of the ball finding its' way between the uprights to the bidding of 'Paton's 'trusty boot, is little, short 0} phenomenal, and shows very fine Judgment on the part of the player. Club football so far this season has been of a most interesting nature^ and to-day's fixture bids fair to excell '--ny previous match to date, so thar o>- record attendance may confidently rjo anticipated.' The junior fixture on the Park this nfiernOon, as ,a curtain raiser to the Star-Kohinoor match, will be contested by the Marist and Star iunaws. Contrary to expectations the Stars are expecting to pui ouf a very strong team, and may catch the greens napping. The latter after th^ir defeatingNejson Creek may take their amber and black opponents too cheaply, li both teams are full}- represented" a very good game should ensue. UNITED >CLOB.
