Three young men named Clarence Gilmour, James Randerson, and Alex > McCormick went out in the 18-foor yacht Kiwi at Lytelton, yesterday, and after 'spending some time in the vi cinity of Diamond Harbour decided to return to port, but on -the return jour ney the boat capsized in the middle of the harbour. The yacht^caught in a strong gust, the suddenness 1 of which took the occu pants by surprise and the jib being blown out the boat sank in a few mm utes. With 1 the exception of Gilmour, the crew were strong 1 swimmers, but with the assistance of the floor board Gilmour was able to hold out for fifteen minutes. Then he suddenly lost the' 'board and called out to his mates who were close by that he was in trouble. \ McCormick regained the board and' assisted Gilmour and in the meantime the matte of the schooner Eliza Firth which had anchored in the stream from Kaipara, in the morning, observed the party's!* plight and with the assistance of a member of the crew , rowed off jn a dinghy. . - The three men were taken on /board and' Gilmbiir immediately collapsed', but resuscitation' measures were used successfully.
