GENERAL SIR IAN HAMILTON

VISIT TO BLENHEiM. (Per United Prpcc Association.) BLENHEIM, May 27. General Sir lan Hamilton, accompanied by General Godley, Colonel Smy the, and Major Ashmore arrived at Picton to-day. They received an official /call from the municipal authorities, and proceeded to Blenheim and inspected the senior cadets in the Marlborough dis trict. Fine weather prevailed, and movements were carried' out most successfully. The General after the inspection, presented the cups procured for the senior cadets, by Mrs Godley. « Addressing the cadets, Sir lan said ■.that "'.the march past had been very successful., With a little more drill they would do good work. One feature of the review was the organisation, -many lads being brought many miles from their homes and fed and lodged in Blenheim. The General asked them to pay no attention '"o those who said that the scheme was not a success. In years to come they would . feel 'better for the training they were now receiving. iCaptain H. Avery wag 1 in charge. Later General Hamil on received a civic' reception. He entered hall pre "ceded by the members- of the Scottish body and a piper playing "Donald Dhu." _ ' ' The General .was welcomed by the Mayor and Councillors and leading citizens- '*> Replying General Hamilton said that any reputation he might have was owing to the brave soldiers he had had under him, in which he included the New Zealand contingents to South Africa, Speaking of the review he said mat he had looked at "some 1,800 boys and taking them all round he thought they weiged iolb. heavier than the boys of the same age in the Old Coun try, as a result of .physical training and drill. - - \ He congratulated the Dominion on what- it was doing for x he young- generation, which in future wouUT manage the country-
