Ex-President Roosevelt is in Cliili, and is about to abandon/ civilisation to plunge into the jungles of the Amazon basin on a sporting and scicn tific trip. . \Vhile he was waiting he indulged, in a heated debate with Dr. Marfinez, who was formerly the ChilianAmbassador to Washington, .and who declared that the Monroe Doctrine, was dead. Roosevelt an crily retorted that as a part of. the United States policy it was still very much alive.
