When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m. a division took place on Mr R. McCallum's amendment, and resulted in the rejection by 49 to 21. A committee was then set up. DAYLIGHT SAVING. Mr T. K. Sidey (Dunedin South) moved the second , reading of the-De-finition-of Time ' Bill .' The Daylight Saving Bill this year has been modified and made applicable only during November, December and January.The Bill was supported by the town members and opposed by the country representatives. The House divided on a motion for. the second reading which was' carried by 36 to 23. . GAMING ACT. Mr T. Wilford (Hutt) moved the second reading of the Gaming Act Amendment, gving power to increase the number of tote permits. He made no explanation of the provisions he was introducing. I The tone of- the debate was against the increase of permits but favoured redistribution. At ;ii. 30 the adjoua-nmejnt of the debate was moved by Mr J. A. Young. j(Waikata).. } Mr Wilford protested against the j motion as a Government attempt to <gag the House from giving expression on the Bill, because the Premier bad^romised to give the member for Waipawa an opportunity to introduce his amendment to the Gaming Act.
