';♦ — ' ' NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES. THE MAYOR HAS A WALK OVER. Yesterday the nominations of candidates ' for..-; the position of Mayor and Borough Councillors and members of the Hospital and- Charitable Aid Board closed at noon, and shortly afterwards the retiring- officer (Mr.. F.- H. Denton) read the following list of candidates-:— MAYORALTY. . George Edward Perkins, proposed •by Dr. J. Wv'Mcßrearty and Mr. McKay. : - The Returning Officer declared Mr. Perkins duly re-elected, he' being the only canddate for the position. Mr. Perkins, addressing the .assembled electors, said he thanked them most heartily for returning him unopposed, and assured them he would endeavour to carry out his duties in the same conscientious manner as. he had in the past. The fact that they had returned him unopposed satisfied him that ,at least to some extent ite had met their requirements. With-re-gard to the election of Councillors, he hoped and trusted it would be conducted in a friendly spirit and without personalities, and that the best men would be returned. He had worKed very satisfactorily with old Council arid had to thank them ror the 1 consideration and courtesy he had always received at their hands. They had always worked, amicably together, and he wa.s certain it was in that way they got die best results. He hoped that the work of the new Council would be beneficial to the town.
