The House -of Commonrs was crowded for the Budget debate. ,:. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Hon. 'David Lloyd George), in the course of his speech, saxl .that during the year every domicile of industry had been doing "humming" business, despite the harvest of Avar and strikes. In consequence of the increase in the navy . estimates and the National Insurance Act, Ihc wanted .•a.n extra £7,500,000, but ncx taxes wore not nccesisary. Tihc Chancellor sa:.d that he was basing his forecast on the assumption tHat the prospects for the coming ycaa- were the most g v 6wing British trade had cv&r seen. He expected that ,the yields from taxes and Customs and excise duties, with £i,opo,, 000 from tlie Exchequer balances, would give a balance of £i 55,000 for tlic new Budget.
