-NELSON, • March in. • The W.C.T.U Convention. |6-day adopted a resolution protesting" against packet licenses being- issued for coastal and river steamers ; against the transmission of betting- [services; urging that engine drivers, pilots and signalmen should abstain from Intoxicants, expressing synipa'thy with the irelativcs of .Gapt. Scott and the comrades ; commending- the action of Judge Ed- . wards in' ordering ofFenders against women and children to be flogged ; and urging- .an amendment of the lew fc enable those guilty of criminal assault to be si'mil'afly dealt with. . The Union also -passed a resolution congratulating- the presidents in tth-e American States which have carried womanhood Suffrage. The Rev. G. Daws' on, .Secretary of the New Zealand Aliance,. addressed the convention </n the progress of the prohibition campaign. This evening- the convention was .addressed' by a num-ber of members on "Good Citizeri&hip." ; ' W.C.T.U. JN ACTION . INVERCARGILL, March 10 • Members/ of T-h.e Executive of tlic Women's Christian Temperance Union have instituted a campaign against liquor advertisements on tram cickets. They threaten to' boycott the electric trams, and- are asking niemberis of temperance org-anisatioris to' refuse to accept tickets bearing- liquor' advertisements. The Union is also ■ .agitatingagainst Sunday trams, and intends to oppose cand4dateis for the town, council who will! not support their views on these matters.
