OPENING OF SEASON. ■'* "■■' The Greymouth Bowling Club opened, their season yesterday in beautiful weather, after having Lad to postpone it twice on account of the unpropitious state of the elements. ' A large crowd was present, included among .whom were numbers of ladies arrayed t/ in light costumes, which made a pretty sight beside the green 'of the lawn and the flower beds which surround it. PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS. In opening the season, the President," Mr. E. J. During the past season .we lvtve had several friendly games with Hokitika for the Ballanger Buckles, which resulted in good friendly rivalry, the Buckles at present being held by Hokitika. During the coming season we hope to have the pleasure of many more friendly games and recapture the Buckles. "Last year a new green was opened at Reefton, your club being re-, presented by a number of playing members, and during the coming season we trust to have a few visits and matches with them. Mr. Morton (President of the Hokitika Club); and Mr. .Nnlder, their secretary, have sent apologies for their unavoidable, absence to-day. Without detaining you any longer I now declare the green open for the season iq 12- 13,' and will! ask Mrs. Smith to roll the first bowl. I Mrs. Smith then came forward and j bowled the first ball of the season, after which three hearty cheers were given for her by the members of the club. During the afternon, tea was dispensed by Mrs. E. J. Smith and hex assistants, Mesdames J. C. Gittos, J. S. Pepper, C. M. Benzoni, W. Thomas ; Misses Skoglund (2), P. Smith and M. Kilgour. The pavilion, was tastefully decorated by the ladies of the club, great ereclit being due to them for their, efforts in this direction. . <„' A novel item provided for the ladies was the "hidden treasure" competition, tickets with numbers on them being hidden among the flowers of the garden.
