To be presented to the members at the Annual General Meeting, '- to be held at the Albion Hotels at 8 p.m., on Monday, August 26th, 1912. . ■ TO THE MEMBERS, GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB. . Gentlemen,:— Your committee, in again presenting the annual statement of accounts for the year ended Ju»e 30th last, regrets that it was found necessary to abandoai the Spring Meeting in October owing to the flooded state of the course, the water rose to a height of four feet over, the lawns, and considerable sediment was deposit- ! Ed in the buildings, the cleaning out of which in addition, to clearing debris off the race track, entailed considerable, expenditure. ; The meeting was finally Held on November 30th and ; December Ist, the weather conditions were probably the most unfavourable the. Club had experienced for many years, .and needless to mention a heavy loss was made. Your committee, are, however, of the opinion that had the meeting been held in October, as originally intended, they would in all probability have been able to report a profit on the meeting. • -However, ■ 1 am sure members' feel proud of the present position of the Clvb 3 which after writing £341. 4s iod off the Premises and Plant. Accounts, leaves a balance, of Assets over Liabilities of -,£6003. 'is id:- . •_ ... The main improvements^'carricd out during the year weile the : erection of an up-to-date Ambulance Room and completion of inside Grandstand. The Course and appointments are at present in splendid order, and the only heavy expenditure Which- the Club will have to' face in the future will be th erection of a new bridge over the Omoto , stream. ... , . Your Committee again regrets to record during the year the death of .some of the Club members, included in the number the Club's late handi : capper (Mr. J. L r poogiin) who had also acted as Secretary to' the Club for "a number of years. It is also with regret that your Committee has to advise you of the-re-signation of Mr. A.-.W. Yarrall,. which was brought about by his 'leaving tHe distiict. During' the" very many years which Mr; Yarrall was connected with the Club, he has filled the position of Committee-man, Stewaid and -Treasurer: with credit to himself and the Club alike, and your Committee has resolved that it be a recommendation to the Annual. Meeting of Members that Mr. Yarrall be made a Life Member of the Club. .
in acordance with resolution carried at the last Annual Meeting pf, Members, a Jockey Club Ball was held | C.uung-the year, but your Committee regu-i? that owing to the unavoidable postponement of the October me'etiiig, the hall was also postponed until after i«.i: races were .iaeld; and .consequently suffered considerably thereby, but your Committee arc of opinion that had there been no need to postpone the races i and* 'the ball had been held as originally intended, the Ball Committee' would 1 undoubtedly have been- able to show a slight profit. ..
