SLY GROG SELLING.

THE QUESTION OF STRATEGY. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, May 10. The question of the means to be adopted by the police in the detection of sly grog v selling was referred to in ■he Supreme Court to-day. In summing up in a case of alleged illicit *Tafnc in liquor Mr Justice Williams- said it was perfectly well recognised that strategy had lo be used "n order to catch people at this, business. !■-■ was perfectly legitimate that strategy should be used, because offenders could not be caught wa.hout •i.t nor could it be expected that a person who acted^ as an informer must necessarily be a very desirable individual. In the present case the person 1 to whom >ibe liquor was alleged to have been sold had been actuated in the matter, not by greed for money, but because he had spite against accused. That was an element which must be 'taken ii/nto consideration in deciding how far his evidence was credible.
