Mr. ■ Keir Hardie, Labour Member for Merthyr Mydvil. speaking: at Swan sea, proposed that, instead of- a minimum^ daily wage there be a yearly solary paid, whether made by, -.good or bad workers, and wh'el'her idle or not. There are five breweries in the Westland and Grey districts. The total number of hands employed is 20 (19 males and 1 female). The wages paid during last year-, amounted -to. £27 50, and the total output was valued at £18,819. , Last week's dredging returns Hnclude the following: Worksop, 82ozs lldwt for 129 hours ; Blackwater River 60ozs 6dwt for 188 hours ; and New Trafalgar 12ozs 15dwt for 112 hours. l w .""
