&14,000 BURGLARY.
ROTHSCHILD CHATEAU RANSACKED.
.PARIS, Feb. 15. - The Chateau de Ferrieres, the home of Ba^on Edouard de- Rothschild, has been entered .by burglars, who secured valuables worth £"14,000. The Petit Parisien states that the chateau is at present uninhabited, and is- under the care of a watchman. Early yesterday morning the watchman noticed one" of the doors on the ground Hoor*vas burst in. A glance showed him that, the room within was in the wildest disorder, and he ran to fetch the steward and agent. They found everything in confusion. Furniture lay broken in all directions, and the grand salon, known as the c Salle des Princes," and hung with valuable pictures, had .been devastated- One picture, stated to be worth £10,000 ,was practically cut to tatters, having been slashed with a knife in ten different places. Tnc valuable furniture in the salon was also ruthlessly damaged by the vandals'. The only objects apparently, carried off were the family silver, which was kept in . a separate . apartment in a safe, which was burst open. In tho pantry were the remnants of a hearty meal, and bottles which had contained fine vintages stored in the cellars of the castle. Absolute reticence is maintained, on the subject of- the robbery, and all approach to the chateau and its grounds is forbidden to any exu>pt those employed on the estate. The police and magistrates at Meaux have the matter in hand. It is said that the: tracks of three mofor-cars weir© seen by the gate of the park leading" in the. direction ..'of the forest of Ferr lares. '
