PREFERENTAL TREATIES PROPOSED.
LONDON, Jan 17 v The Morning Post applauds Canada's proposal for a reciprocal agree ! ment. with Australia. Mr. Ai'tken, a: Commoneir, i-m the course of an interview, declared that it marks a step ky the direction of Imperial preference, most beneficial to Canada, Australia,, and New, Zfialari'd. Dr Perkin, author and lecturer oh Imperial- Federation, stated 'that hitherto at 'has .been assumed that it would be useless to. enter into a preferential arrang-ement wherein Britoin had not taken part. , LONDON, Jan 16- --■ Sir William Hall-Jones ,interviewed, said tbat New Zealand was carrying on a nice itrade with Vancouver. It was hoped that the projected reciprocal scheme iiypuld give a further stimulus thereto. While the arrangement was calculated to benefit the three countries commercially, it would likewise possess' sentimental advantages more closely connecting them. He added that it would be an object lesson for.all studying Imperial preference whether from a favourable or hostile standpoint.
