A quiet wedding was solemnised on Thursday (say,s the Westport News) at the residence of the bride's . sister, Mr Menzies, the contracting parties being Mr Chas. Goodyer, of the Public Works Department, and Miss Mary Rassmussen. second daughter of Mr and Mrs C. Rassmussen, of Lyell. The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr J. Menzies, was ' attired in a smart navy costume and silver grey hat, with deep blue trimmings. She was attended by Miss K. Kane", of Addisons, as bridesmaid, while Mr H. P. 'Rassmussen supported the bridegroom as best man. The Rev Father McMenamin was the ofneiatclergyman. The bride's present : to bridegroom was a silver-mounted pocket wallet, and the 'groom's present to the bride a gold watch? and. chain and to her maid a silver-mounted hair brush, comb and mirror. After the usual toasts had been honoured, the happy couple left overland for Christchurch en "route for Australia whore the honeymoon will be spent.
The death is announced of Father John Denis O'Dwyer, of.Leeston. He was born in County Kerry, Ireland, in 1847, and was -educated at Black Rock College and in Paris, being ordained in the latter place in 1871. He spent many years in the diocese of Wellington and the diocese of Auckland. He went to Christchurch in 1906,. and did duty at Kumara, Waimate and -latterly at_Leeston. At -the funeral Bishop Grimes stated that the deceased clergy man had been a very devoted priest, and possessed a keen sense of duty. Great zeal and earnestness had always characterised his work everywhere he had been. He started the first Catho-: lie newspaper published in New Zealand, and was its first editor. After a long and honourable career he had come to Leeston to prepare for death.
