REEETON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held at Dawson's Hotel, Reefton, on Tuesday night. There were present Messrs R. Wills (chair), 1 James Patterson, J. Dick, F. B. Sta'l- | lard, J. Noble, Isaac Patterson and H. 1 P. Lawry. Messrs Austin arid Thoru- | ton sent apologies. ■ Mr J. Dick produced a petition 1 from Messrs Pettigrew, Cameron and 1 others asking the support of the I Council in a movement for the fur--1 ther development of the Boatman's I Mining field and stating that a peti--1 tion to Government for assistance had i been forwarded to Wellington, asking 1 for the Council's endorsement. Mr § Isaac Patterson moved and Mr James B Noble seconded that a "telegram be H sent -to Mr James Colvin M.P. I strongly recommending the favorable 1 compliance with the request. — Car- § vied. And also urging that the dir lector of the Geological Survey be instructed fc> report on the proposition. It was proposed by Mr I. Patterson, seconded by Mr Stallard tliat the Hon. A. R. Guinness and Mr T. Y. Seddon be asked 4o endeavour to get the Hukarere railway station make available so as to transact the business of Waiuta and Blackwater. It was pointed out that this would riiean a saving of two miles and they be re 1 $ quested to bring the matter before & the house in a question' and also by I intimating the Department. • b

Stallard seconded that a letter be sent to the District Traffic , Manager , again -reminding him that the light- ( 5 ing of Reef ton Station was danger--1 ously ,inefficient and asking for better light especially at the luggage landing stage. — Carried. s Mr James Patterson and Mr .J. s Dick seconded that a letter he -writ--1 ten to the District Traffic Manager j I complaining of the delays in sending 1 forward goods consigned to Reefton - and that goods be sent forward by the ; 1 morning train, also that goods out- = wards from Reefton be sent forward , by the first available train instead of ; i as at the present time being held uni til the evening train as the practice s was decidedly, inconvenient to country. j consignees. — Carried. " t Mr J. Noble moved and Mr F. B. . Stallard seconded that telegrams he (1 sent to Sir A. R. Guinnei's, Mes c J. Colvin ■ and Sir Joseph Ward and - the Hon-Mr McKenzie urging that ■ some provision be made oh the Sup- < plementary estimates for a new Post \ Office at Reefton. — Carried. t Mr J. , Patterson moved and Mr J. t ■i Dick seconded that a letter be •writ--0 ten to Sir A. R. Guinness urging that 1 provision ,be made in the Supplemenv tary estimate's for the construction of s n, bridge over Stoney Creek on the Greymouth Road or for the conversion of the railway bridge -into a combined road and- railway bridge thus • bridging the Only dangerous creek between Grey and Reefton. . A request from tfee Council of the School of Mines asking the Chamber to support them in an application was heartily endorsed. It was resolved to make a vigorous effort to obtain ; the services of Mr "W. P. Morgan, the Government Geologist for a geological survey and asking the West Coast members to assist. A donation of £2 2s was granted to the . A. and P. ' Association for the best exhibit of locally grown fruit and -£2 2s for the best exhibit of root crops. A good deal of detail business was also transacted arid the meeting adiourned.
