BROMWICH-AND GRIFFIk, At tlie Hawke's Bay boxing championships, which were held at Hastins;s on Thursday, the principal attraction was the bout between Jack. Griiffin, of Gre.ymoulh (9.13) and Alf Bromwich, of Paeroa (9.9) for a purse of £50. As Iho men entered tlie^ rincr 'Gi-ifiin looked bigger and stronger' than his opponent, who,- however, showed .admirable footwork, .find lie also introduced a smart left and vigorous right. Griffin, oh the other hand, scored all the time at infighting, inflicting considerable punishment whenever Uiey came to close quarters. ■ In the fifth round Griffin caught • Bromwich with a solid punch, and following up his advantage smartly, had the Paeroa lad in a bad way. He was almost down and out, but taking the full count ho was saved by the gong. . • Bromwich recovered sufficiently tc keep out of harm's way in the succeeding round, and the remainder of the contest provided a most interesting competition. Griffin still looked all over a winner, but Bromwich landed a short jolt in (he fourteenth round which completely altered the complexion of things. Griffin went to the floor and finished the round decidedly the worse for wear. In the fifteenth and last round both men cut loose, Bromwich, on the whole, having the better of a vigorous rally. ' The referee (Mr. McGregor) awarded the contest- to Bromwich — a decision • which, however, failed to satisfy the bulk of the spectators. The bout Avas contested in a thoroughly sportsmanlike manner, and was considered one of the best ever seen in Hastings. TO-MORROW'S TOURNAMENT. Everything is now in readiness for the Greymouth tournament to be held in the Opera House to-morrow night, when In addition to the various competitions ir - the fly, bantam, feather, and light-weight amateur events, .'a four-round bout wil be given between Mulholland, of Blackball, and A .Mussen, of Cobden, which should be very interesting, both younj men being very equally, matched. To-morrow morning at half-past clever Messrs G. W. Moss and Co. will sell ir their auction rooms, to close parfcnershir. accounts, Messrs Symes and Campbell's extended claim, dams, etc., situate ai y No Town, full particulars of which oar be obained from the auctioneers. SCHOOLS' FOOTBALL FINi\L. The Greymouth District High Schoo and Marist "A" teams will meet again 'to morrow afternoon at two o'clock on Vie toria Park to decide the question of supre a macy in the schools' competition. Thes( ■ two teams have already met twice during this season, ar\d both matches have re suited in a draw: No score in the flrsi match and six points eacli in the matcl played on Wednesday last. Needless U say, there is a great amount of interest taken in the match, as it is but seldon ""o school teams are so evcur matched as l to have to play three game: to decide the supremacy between them.
