A BENEFIT CONCERT.
A goodly audience was present last night at the Opera House when a very creditable and accoptalble programme was submitted, the proceeds of the entertainment 'being' in aid of thait most worthy ' institution, the Sailor's Rest.
Mr. Pollard Had generously placed the Opera^ House at the disposal of the committee, and furthermore contributed a number of magnificent pictures which afforded considerable treasure.
His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. C. Russell) on behalif of the committee briefly thanked those present for their attendance, and !the performers for their valuable assistance. He desired specially to thank Mr Tom Pollard who with his accustomed generosity had come forward to help the Sailor's Rest along. Mr Pollard had provided no less than twenty (benefits. All would remember the Pollard benefit at the time of the ©runner disaster, which realized £110. He thought sometimes that they were imposing to Mr Pollard, but he did not seem to mind it. lin conclusion he again thanked all who fliad assisted and those who were present in the audi-
