ENGLISH TROOPS INVITED TO NEW ZEALAND.

Sir Joseph, in reply to an inquiry as to whether New Zealand troops would be represented among the .60,---000 who will participate, in the Coronation, ceremony, replied in the rieg--a»iye.. : . . . 'I have advised the Home authorities, through 'his Excellency the Governor, that it is not intended to send a contingent from the Dominion. I strongly urged that in view of the fact that Coronation celebrations of a. suitable, character, doing honour 'to the King upon his ascension of the throne, would be carried .. out in the Dominion; that a body' of Imperial -troops might :be despatch ed from, the heart of the Empire^ to the New Zealand celebrations. The presence of' these well-trained and well-officered .men would . be of incalculable benefit to ithe Dominion, and would add distinction to the^-ob I servances of the- historic occasion. It has fallen to lot of the people ' of New Zealand to take part, during a brief period of ten years, In. the ceremonies consequent upon the death of our late beloved Queen Victoria, and also of the coronation and demise of her great son, King Edward. Queen Victoria's reiga was unprecedentedly long, and her son ascended the throne long after middle life. The present occasion is entirely, different. Our King is to be crowned in the .flush of his early -manhood, and without in any way being.accused of making a fetish of a great and important historical event, loyal Brit, ish subjects in all parts of the Empire who believe that the monarch-

ial system is best and gives most lasting results are desirous of showing them new King, and wish to na.ark his icoranatian as a notable occasion, expressing in the most prac-

tical way their hope that his reign may be long, successful and glorious."
