AUSTRALIAN WHEAT FLEET

A great fleet o? 1 steamers and sailing ships has beer chartered this year to load wheat a: Australian ports for the -United Kin^dv:vt» or for Europe. From December Ist up till Wednesday last 18 sailing ships and 24 steam ers had sailed ' Homeward bound, carrying 732,141 sacks of wheat. Three of the steamers had full cargoes, one of them having 81,253 sacks of boards, while the other 21 steamers were carrying part cargoes and small "parcels." At present there are over 50 steamers and 'sailingships' in Australian ports loadingwheat, and another 50 are on their way to Australian ports. The 100 vessels include 78 sailing ships and 22 large steamers, and the wheat exporting firms are still busily chartering vessels to loan grain. Freight rates range from 24s 6d per ton to 26s per ton, according to the class of vessel and the loading port.
