In the House of Representatives yesterday, in moving the second reading of the Crown Suits Amendment Bill, Sir Joseph Ward said that the Bill was intended to amend the Crown Suit s Act by placing the State in the same position as any other employer in respect to a breach of contract ; for any cause of action in xiespect of which a petition of right would be against the Crown at common law,' -and for any injury independent of contract for which an action would He if defendant was a subject of the King. No claim for damages would be payable when the Crown was liable to pay compensation under Workers' com pensation Act. TJie Crown would be safeguarded against speculative actions.
