Four hours previously, when the crisis was at its height Tolstoi took his daughter- Tabana's hand' and, drew it towards him and said: "Wellthis is the end." That was all he said. T>he Abbot of -Opin Monastry, and the 'monk accompanying him were not allowed to see Tolstoi. ' They slept in the waiting room at the station. •; ■ PROFOUND SYMPATHY. AND . =. MOURNING. The Grand Duke, Nicholas Michelovitch, itelegraphed to the Countess, "My whole soul is with you ; and your family in this sad moment." Other innumerable condolences were received -at Moscow; " -and Several theatres abandoned their Sunday' performances. " ' TO HONOR THE DEAD. The League of Feminine Culture is forming an international committee to consider the best means of hon oring Tolstoi's memory. The students at Kasan spent Sunday as a day foif mourning. The St. Petersburg Holy Synod decided that the Church will not participate ia the funeral or memorial services. • Barristers, literateurs, doctors and others are holding -meetings in connection with mourning and honoring the deceased.
