CORRESPONDENCE.
EXTRA RATES. (To the Editor.) Sir, — As a ratepayer allow me space to protest against the action of the Councillors in putting- more rates on. We are taxed to the utmost . as it is, and what with the Native ~ Lease rent property is not worth holding. The nice little move of Cr. Tennent's, supported by a majority of the Councillors to have a new re-valuation, is just another way of calling up extra rates. Why not do the thing- straight out? What is the use of trying to hoodwink the ratepayers? Cr. Tennent may be a keen business man, but Ec carT Hardly be said to be a Triend of the poor struggling ratepayer and working man. I believe this re-valuation scheme will increase the rates by fifty per cent: Time will tell, and ratepayers, when you get your rate noticejs, remember the ' Councillors who imposed extra taxa tipn on you. — I am e ; tc., RATEPAYER.
