\ The Mapourika arrived from north yesterday morning, and sailed on her ! return last evening. The Kittawa with a full' cargo of timber for Lyttelton sailed last evening. The Holmdale from Pic'ton is due to day. The Te Anau left Lyttelton on Wed nesday for Grey, calling at way ports en route. The Ngahere is due this morning from Wellington and loads coal tor the same port. The Ngahere te due this morning from Wellington and loads coal for the same port. v The Kaiapoi is 'due to-night from Dunedin and Lyttelton. The PoTierua & duo from Wellington to-day. The Kaitoa arrives to-night from i "-eltiugton via Nelson and Westport nnd sails at 2 o'clock to-morrow for Wanganui direct. The Kennedy leaves Wellington to-day for Nelson and the Coast and is due her on Monday morning early. The Petone which arrived-at 8.30 last evening- from Gisborne experienced a very rough and anxious time. The ttfip, which under ordinary cdrcumsfcancea should have! taken two days, " occupied five days. Captain Dilner, in ,converration with a representative of th& journal, stated ift -was the worst trip he had experienced. Shortly after leaving the vessel ran into a tremeridous gale, with mountainous seas. For 24 hours he did hot average three miles an hour,- and was compelled to reek shelter at Cape Kidnapper. Even at anchor he had un anxiousl time, as the ee?s were rolling in in great force. His one anxiety • \vi-b his supply of coal, and fortunately it just Hasted until- ihe arrived in Greyxcouth. The trip was the worst experienced by the able and efficient j captain, and as he remarked "All's well that ends welt." i Sir Jamer Mills (managing director) and Mr C. Holdsworth (general man- | ager)' of the Union Company joined the Moeraki «!t the Bluif as passenger* for Melbourne. The outward manifest of the steamer Moeraki, which sailed .from Wellington last Thursday, included a somewhhit unusual lino of ,exnort, in six e*ags' heads.- The heads, which are fine specimens, are being shipped to Melbourne. On Tuesdhy- evening the Canterbury Shipping Company's new steamer Breeze paid her maiden visit to WestJport, arriving from Wanganui. The Breeze is dmilar in model to the company's steamer Storm, but her gross^ register is 100 tons more. She can (also carry about three tonr greater deadweight load than the Storm The new vessel hbs two hatchways, jnd is fitted' with modern appliances for -the rapid' handling of cargo. Superior and well furnished quartlers have been provided for the master, officers, omd engineers amidships, while >the crew is installed forward. The engines are of the triple expansion order,, built by Gray and Co., of South SWcls. They drive a e ; ngle-6crews mn\ develop 500 indicated horse-power. Captain Wood, Inte of the Storm, is in command of the Breeze, 'Mr Cowan being chief office, and Mr Maxwell second. The engineers ;rire Messrs Lane ancl Chandler.
