CLASSIFICATION OF TEACHERS

(Per Press Association). NEW.PLYMUTH, April 27. At a meeting of the Taranaki Education Board the 'Board's inspectors, Mesirs W. A. Ballantyne and R. G. Whetter, reported on the question of tlu classification of teachers. They recommended that the, following scheme be adopted as a basis of classification with, a total of 100 marks:— Service, 10 marks (two yeara 1 mark), academic attainment 15 marks, teachers proficiency 40 marks, personality (including tone, tact, influence', aaid thoroughness) 20 marks, organisation 10 marks. " The inspectors added that this rjhenie was the one adopted as a basis oi classification for teachers of the whole of the colony by n. conference of, school inspectors recently held at Wellington The' Board decided to adopt the scheme, and at a later stage adopted tho following) system of transfer and ' promotion l :-J-(l)" That .-after June Ist in the appointment of teachers the Board shall first of all consider if it lias a teacher in its service suitable ; t6 fill tlie vacancy, and if so then that teacher shall be 'trantf erred to £li© vacancy provided the committee concerned raises no valid objection to the appointment.
