THE DREDGE MAWHERA.

! The new dredger for the Greymouith Harbor Board which was recently ; launched by Messrs William Simons and Co., possesses many special features. It is of the twin-screw stern, well combined bucket suction and discharging type. It was launched with all its machinery complete ready for work wider the supervision of Mr Harry Raymond, inspecting engineer 1 to the Greymouth Harbor Board. The hull and machinery 'have been built to Lloyd's highest class. The bucket ladder is arranged so that the bucket can dredge close up to quay walls, and also cut out in dry land a channel for the dredger's own flotation. The discharging pump is arranged to receive and deliver through a long length of floating and ihore pipes. The propelling power is provided by two sets, of triple-expansion, surface condensing engines, each driving its own steam •boilers for. a working pressure of 100 lbs. Tihe propelling engines are also arranged for. driving the bucket chain at two different speeds, and the suction and discharging, pumps either in conjunction with the buckets or separately as required. The engine auxiliary outfit include independent auUimafic feed pumps, bilge pumps, service pumps, circulating pumps condenser, feed heater, and filter. Independent steam hoist: gears are provided both for ladder and suction pipe; The mooring winches at bow and v slcrn are exceptionally strong.
